Be a part of a global event titled “Sharing the Spirit of America”!
“Sharing the Spirit of America” is program that commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, and its first public reading that was done on July 8, 1776, with a simultaneous public reading of the Declaration of Independence around the globe.
The goal of “Sharing the Spirit of America” is to provide Americans the opportunity to pause and reflect on our nation’s past, celebrate our rich history and shared values, and look ahead toward the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond.
The Declaration of Independence will be read on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 5 p.m. from the steps of the Otoe County Courthouse in downtown Nebraska City. The public is invited to attend.
